VUs for digital

VUs for digital

One of the problems with using a VU with modern digital equipment, is that the levels are completely unsuitable.  VU's were designed for +4dBu signals, whereas modern digital devices work at +18 to +24dBu.  The result: VU meter needles get pegged, making the meter useless.

Crookwood have solved this with an adjustable attenuator, allowing you to operate a VU whatever the signal level!

Passive Attenuator

Our real VU meters need to see a fixed impedance driving them in order to have the correct ballistics, so we invented a passive, balanced attenuator that could let you use our VUs from +4 to +23dbU signals with ease!

Because the attenuator is passive, you don't need to supply any power to the VU meters, making them easy to install and very reliable.  Just connect up the inputs and away you go!

Repeatable control

The switched control pot on front of the meter allows you to select the 0VU level from +4dBu to +19dBu (0VU to +15VU) in 3dB steps.  Because it's switched, the calibration is repeatable and accurate, and the 6 position switch allows you to easily change the range the VU works over to suit the programme material you're working on at present.

So whether you're working with an ATR, a hot mix, or a dynamic acoustic performance, our Crookwood VU meters will give you a true reading of the loudness of the music.  Just what the doctor ordered!
