Choosing a Crookwood Remote Controlled Preamp
Choosing a Crookwood Remote Controlled Preamp
It's pretty easy: We've got 2 models, the Paintpot and the iPre. They are designed for different applications, but they actually have identical preamp and ADC circuits inside. When we say identical, we mean it: becuase our products are all modular, they actually have the same preamp card and ADC card, so both products sound identical
This article helps you decide which Crookwood remote controlled preamp would suit your needs the best.
The details below shows the basic features of each controller, and the menus to the left will let you access more detailed information on each preamp.
The Paintpot Preamp
- The Paintpot is a portable 2 channel preamp housed in a cylinder (no really!)
- It is intended for stereo pair location work or studio spot micing
- It has front panel controls so it can be used by itself, or with a remote controller
- It has an option for an internal ADC, giving AES and/ or SPDIF and optical Toslink outputs
- It has XLR input and output connectors
The iPre Preamp
- The iPre is a rackmounted, moduar preamp that can have between 2 and 32 channels
- It is indended for location recording, or broadcast/studio use
- It is remote controlled only by our remote control panel
- It has a MIDI port for external control with other protocols
- You add racks that hold 8 channels at a time to expand it. An 8 channel system is 2RU high, a 32 channel system is 5RU high
- It has XLR inputs for microphones, but DB25 connectors for outputs
- It has a option to mount the inputs on the front panel for ease of use in flightcase systems
- It has an option for DC inputs for ribbons and dynamic mics
- It has an option for 130V mics, providing power as well
- It has an option for a spitter card to provide 2 independant analogue outputs per channel. Each output can be pre or post the preamp. Ideal for FOH and broadcasters
- Each channel can be fitted with an internal ADC card, providing AES outputs on all channels at the same time as the analogue outputs
- There is an optical and coaxial MADI output option (Jan 2010)
As you can see, the two products complement each other well, and cover most of the bases. Have a look at the details to see more.
