Custom Dream Machine

Dream MachineWe make the widest range of Monitor Controllers on the planet.  However we recognise that everybody is different, and that  Audio processing is a creative process.  Because all of our products are modular, we can relatively easily make a custom controller, with the features that you want, for a reasonable price.

Building Blocks

The modular building block nature of our hardware and software control modules means that putting together a new controller doesn't usually  require us to make any new hardware.  This means that it's a relatively quick and tooling cost free process to get the features you need.

Examples

These are some of the things we've done in the past:

  • Meter switchers: adding a selector panel to select any point in the record chain to be monitored or metered.
  • Serial GPIO: we've added code to remotely select video switchers, so sound and picture track as you select them from the front panel.
  • Talkback routers: routing talkback to multiple, selectable destinations for multiroom production suites.
  • Special Machines: added modes to cope with hybrid converter and processor devices.  This allows them to be used as converters or digital processor at a flick of a switch.
  • Vinyl controllers: see the separate section in the Mastering section, but we've done RDLs, elliptical EQs, and all sorts of stuff to integrate lathes.

The list goes on, but you get the idea.

Logistics

All though it's much easier for us to do this than anybody else, it's not a pain free experience. Before you get too excited, consider the following:

  • It's going to cost you more. Most of the time the actual work isn't too bad, but the documentation can take a long time.
  • it will take longer to build. We use a special team to build the custom stuff, interspersed with regular work, so it can take several weeks or even months longer than normal.
  • You have to be very sure what it is you need. We can change things during the build, or after delivery, but this adds more time and cost,
  • We now insist that we do the install for most custom products. Years of experience has told us that this is the best way to iron out any bugs or confusion.

Despite these real world issues, we have many delighted customers of custom gear, for whom having a controller that does exactly what they need has made all the difference.

If you're interested, just email or call us, and we can talk further.
