Choosing a Crookwood Audio Router
Choosing a Crookwood Audio Router
Our R class of Routers has 3 basic models, with lots of variants available, so you can specify exactly the router you need.
The models cover analogue insert boxes (mastering switchers or insert switchers), passive analog matrices, digital crosspoint routers, or a combination ofall of them. The analogue routing is all done with gas sealed balanced relays, completely passive for sonically perfect performance. The digital routing is properly transformer terminated and actively buffered for proper performance.
There's lot of choice, and this article helps you decide which R router would suit your needs the best.
The list below shows the basic features of each Router, and the menus to the left will let you access more detailed information on each mode
R1 Router
The R1 is ideal for customers who want to integrate analogue and digital processors, and machines around DAWs and monitor controllers. It will speed up your facility and improve your creativity.
The R1 router looks like the routing section of our mastering consoles it has these features:
- Monitor source selector, digital and analogue
- Record source selector, digital and analogue
- Digital insert box - insert digital devices into a record path, in any order
- Analogue insert box - insert analogue devices into a record path, in any order
- Analogue parallel insert & MS processing
- Automatic insertion of Crookwood or external converters to convert between analogue and digital - seemless routing
R2 Router
The R2 is a traditional digital crosspoint router, but with a fast user interface.
The R2 router has these features:
- From 8x8 to 32x32 crosspoint switcher
- Accepts AES or SPDIF inputs and outputs
- Route anything to anything
- Every input and output is buffered
- Easy to use it as a selector or a router
R3 Router
The R3 is an analogue insert box, (mastering switcher or insert switcher in popular parlance). It allows you to select a source and insert a set of analogue processors into that path . It's ideal for forming a powerful analogue mastering or production record path, and offers more flexibility in routing inserts than any other device available today. The larger devices can be used as a free form passive analogue matrix, so you could use them as a recording interface to your outboard.
The R3 router has these features:
- Record source selector with copy out for monitoring
- 3, 7, 11 or 15 inserts
- Insert any number of inserts, from the total number of inserts, in any order
- Form parallel inserts, choose what's in each path, in what order and mix them back together
- Dual level trimmers, so you can optimise levels at the start of end of the record chain, or around an individual piece of gear
- MS processor, apply MS to any individual processor, or groups of processors
In addition to these features are also a range of standard add-ons, like:
- talkback
- VU metering
- GPIO
- Mounting options
- Connector options
As you can see, we have a great range of powerful routing machines. There is also the ability to customise the router to your needs, and also to offer different control interfaces, like MIDI etc.
