Audio Router Overview

Choosing a Crookwood Audio Router

R3 routerOur R class of Routers has 3 basic models, with lots of variants available, so you can specify exactly the router you need.

The models cover analogue insert boxes (mastering switchers or insert switchers), passive analog matrices, digital crosspoint routers, or a combination ofall of them. The analogue routing is all done with gas sealed balanced relays, completely passive for sonically perfect performance. The digital routing is properly transformer terminated and actively buffered for proper performance.

There's lot of choice, and this article helps you decide which R router would suit your needs the best.

R1 Analogue and Digital Stereo Mastering Insert Switcher

The R1 is our killer stereo insert switcher. It's basically the transfer section of our M1 mastering console. It is designed for engineers that want to work with digital and analogue sources and processors at the same time, all routed from one system. You can:  choose any analogue or digital source to be the input to your record path  •  insert digital and analogue processors into the chain, in any order  • add analogue level and MS processing  •  automatically insert DAC and ADC converters where required, from a pool of converters  •  digitally buffer the output to multiple record destinations.  There is nothing quite like it, anywhere.

R3 Analogue Mastering Insert Switcher

The R3 is our analogue mastering insert switcher. It's basically the transfer section of our M3 mastering console. It is designed for engineers that want to work with analogue sources and processors at the same time, all routed from one system. You can:  choose any analogue source to be the input to your record path  •  insert analogue processors into the chain, in any order  • add analogue level and MS processing  •  form parallel analogue record paths and mix them together.
It has an incredible degree of flexibility, similiar to having full access to an analogue patchbay, but with all the speed and power of an automatic router.

R2 Digital Crosspoint Router

The R2 is our digital crosspoint router. It's a traditional asynchronous router that you can connect any of your AES or SPDIF gear to it, but it has an easy to use hardware control panel. Arranged as a source selector, so it's very quick to use for monitoring or routing digital sources. Available in various sizes up to 32x32, it's also very cost effective.
